Wow…almost 3 years since my last post. I meant to post something sooner but that never happened. After giving it thought, I've decided to officially announce my hiatus. When I started here, I had recently begun college and art was my escape from the stress of classes. Never did I think I'd end up posting 1,000+ pieces and have over 76,000 page views. I thank all those who have provided me with encouragement, support and constructive criticism over the years. However, aside from some sketches and doodles I haven't drawn anything worth posting in at least 5 years and don't know when, or if, I will anytime in the near future. A lot has changed in my life including marriage, a move, health-related issues, and other real-life responsibilities. I'm still around and checking deviantArt on a semi-regular basis though I continue to be very busy with work, traveling for dog shows, personal things, and just life in general. Malama pono, all!

Regarding Comments:
Another issue is comment content. While constructive criticism is tolerated and accepted, snide, degrading, perverted, and outright nasty remarks are not. Please refrain from posting such remarks. I really do not appreciate them and would rather not raise my stress level any higher than it is when I see them in my inbox. So far, these comments have been on my ORIGINAL characters. It's not a character from an anime/manga/videogame/movie so there is no guideline of how I should be drawing it, just my own. Their design is purely my own and I may do what I wish. I find it unnecessary for people to post such snide comments on something that they do not have any say over. I'm going to continue drawing my characters the way that I want. Wow…2 years since my last post. I meant to post something sooner but that never happened but this month marks my 10th year here on deviantArt. When I started here, I had recently begun college and art was my escape from the stress of classes and collegiate demands. Never did I think I'd end up posting 1,000+ pieces and have over 65,000 pageviews. I thank all those who have provided me with encouragement, support and constructive criticism over the years. I hate to sound cliche but your comments have helped me improve as an artist and given me the push I needed to continue. Today, I'm still drawing but nearly not as often due to the demands of work and life in general. 10 years of life experiences, both positive and negative, happy and heart-wrenching, fun and not so fun have shaped me from the awkward college freshman I was when I started here to the confident and persistent adult I am today. I'm still around and checking deviantArt on a regular basis though I continue to be very busy with work, dog shows, personal things, and just life. As I am extremely busy and will be for quite some time, I regret to say that my uploads will continue to be very few and far between.

Another issue is comment content. While constructive criticism is tolerated and accepted, snide, degrading, perverted, and outright nasty remarks are not. Please refrain from posting such remarks. I really do not appreciate them and would rather not raise my stress level any higher than it is when I see them in my inbox. So far, these comments have been on my ORIGINAL characters. It's not a character from an anime/manga/videogame/movie so there is no guideline of how I should be drawing it, just my own. Their design is purely my own and I may do what I wish. Wow…10 months since my last post. I meant to post something when I uploaded my last set of art but that never happened. Just wanted to let you all know that I'm still around and checking DeviantArt on a regular basis. I continue to be very busy with family, the job hunt, and just life in general. I have drawn a little (and taken photographs) and I'll post what I have when I can. As I am extremely busy and will be for quite some time, I regret to say that my uploads will continue to be very few and far between.
We have welcomed another Samoyed into our home, a male puppy who we've named Stormy. This comes after years of searching and heartache communicating with rescues to find a dog suitable for our home (our last attempt was so heartbreaking that I had pretty much given up the search). We have friends who are breeders and their last few litters have been claimed before they were born so we were not prepared when they offered us the lone unclaimed puppy who no one seemed to want. Now, at 6 months old, Stormy is a bold, cheerful, and friendly little guy who has made himself at home.
In the fish world, things could be better. Unfortunately, a heron infiltrated the pond (it somehow got under the netting covering the surface) and killed 5 koi. The remaining fish were immediately removed and are currently residing inside the house until the weather clears up and I can figure out what to do next. The menace has been coming back for 3-4 months. I resorted to purchasing a heron decoy and had been moving it around the pond regularly but the bird still keeps coming back. I've even let my dogs out after it and it still returns. On the positive end, my female koi, Reiko, decided to lay eggs and it appears that Monty (my Sarasa goldfish male) fertilized them. I now have my quarantine take filled with TONS of tiny 2 month old babies. As sad as it was to lose those koi, I now have many potential new additions to the pond (if I can figure out what to do about the heron).
As I alluded to, the weather has been nuts here in NorCal. We have had snow, hail, heavy rain, thunderstorms, flooding, tule fog, rockslides/landslides, hurricane-force winds, 2-3 tornados, a water spout, random hot days, and the damaging residual effects from the tsunami following the tragic earthquake in Japan.
Regarding requests/trades/commissions:
I have been receiving notes asking for me to draw people their favorite characters and/or original characters and then send my pictures to them without even as much as suggesting an art trade (these mainly being people without deviations in their galleries but tons of favorites). So far it has been non-watchers. I don't know why but I find this to be rather rude. As you can see, my journal always states my trade/request/commission status as closed. It's like that for a reason. I have done this because I really don't have as much time on my hands as I used to. When I do draw, I draw to relieve my stress. I draw things that I like. It helps me decompress after countless hours studying and at work. It irks me when I am asked to draw something for someone who has never commented on a piece of mine or devwatched me (and believe me, I have a good memory). And the way that I'm asked is like "draw this for me and send it to me". Seriously, it pisses me off. Once again, I DO NOT do requests so don't ask. For those of you who are my devwatchers, I am sorry to say that I am also closed for these 3 things as well to you too. I've been burned in the past when it comes to trades with people I do not personally know and don't want to risk this when monetary sums are involved.

Quasi-Hiatus

My final semester of didactic graduate work has ended and one of my internships has started. Since the vast majority of my time will be spent either working or on the road to and from work, my free time is highly limited (my hours, including commute, are 7AM to roughly 6:30-7PM). Seeing as this is the case (as well as having a loved one in the hospital following a traumatic event and July just being a very difficult month for me), I will be taking a quasi-hiatus from art (though I will check my messages regularly), just because I don't have the time to draw, let alone draw something worth posting at this time.
In the fish world, as the weather has warmed I have added 2 new koi fingerlings to my pond. The newest editions are a magoi and a butterfly kigoi. A charming little pair. An older sarasa goldfish is on the photographing list and I plan to take pictures as soon as I can.
Lastly, I had been noted a while ago regarding participating in a "10 Facts About You" meme and thought I'd make good on my end and do it before I get even busier. I normally don't do memes for people that I do not know personally. I just feel the need to take a short break.
1. Do not like Apple products (though I have a Shuffle I got as a gift). I own a Motorolla Droid and LOVE it.
2. I own 6 aquariums (1 is a quarantine tank and currently not in use), 6 fishbowls, and a koi pond.
3. I am a huge, life-long hockey fan. Go Sharks!
4. I can play the guitar (I have an electric and an acoustic).
5. I have been doing martial arts for 13 years.
6. I am a Breyer Horse addict! I currently have over 200 and primarily collect Traditional sized ones (the largest scale) but will OCCASIONALLY pick up a Classic sized one (the second largest scale).
7. I don't like amusement park rides with drop offs or that go upside down (so most roller coasters are out).
8. My favorite color is ice blue.
9. I own 11 orchids.
10. I used to be a competitive horseback rider and did eventing (dressage, show jumping, and cross country) for several years.

My final semester of didactic graduate work has ended and I am currently enjoying the time I have off until my internships begin. I’ve drawn a little but haven’t really finished anything due to catching up on lost sleep and responsibilities that I had been neglecting while school was in session. What I have drawn has been mainly sketches of original characters and San Jose Sharks fanart (I’ve put the Flame of Recca art on indefinite hold) I have recently set up my scanning program on my new laptop so expect my future submissions to be scanned instead of photographed.
This season, I’ve have the opportunity to go to a good number of San Jose Sharks hockey games. Hockey is my favorite professional sport and it brightens my day to go to these games and well worth the drive down. The playoffs have been amazing and I’ve REALLY enjoyed going to these games. At the last game I was at (5/8/10), where the Sharks clenched the series against the Detroit Red Wings, the HP Pavilion (aka “The Shark Tank”) was voted as the loudest NHL arena after years of speculation. At 137 decibels, it should be! That’s about the same noise level as being on the tarmac next to a jet that is taking off. The energy at these games has been INTENSE! The team hasn’t disappointed and the crowd feeds off of it. Part of it is because the team has an awesome record this year as well as the fact that they are all around good guys. Completely different than many of the athletes you see in basketball, baseball, and football. Next, San Jose plays either the Chicago Blackhawks or the Vancouver Canucks. In the fish world, as the weather has warmed I have added a few new fingerlings to my pond. The newest editions are a magoi, yamabuki ohgon, aka bekko, showa, orenji hariwake, butterfly asagi, and 2 sanke. Aside from the pond, I added female guppy and another hybrid jewel cichlid from a feeder fish tank as well as another male betta. The guppy and an older sarasa goldfish are on the photographing list and I will take pictures as soon as I can. I may need to re-shoot my red parrot cichlid since he is losing his black and turning all red but I’ll do it when his color completely changes. He still has a little black so that can wait.
Regarding requests/trades/commissions:
I have been receiving notes asking for me to draw people their favorite characters and/or original characters and then send my pictures to them without even as much as suggesting an art trade (these mainly being people without deviations in their galleries but tons of favorites). So far it has been non-watchers. I don't know why but I find this to be rather rude. As you can see, my journal always states my trade/request/commission status as closed. It's like that for a reason. I have done this because I am a graduate student and I really don't have as much time on my hands as I used to. When I do draw, I draw to relieve my stress. I draw things that I like. It helps me decompress after countless hours at college, studying and work. It irks me when I am asked to draw something for someone who has never commented on a piece of mine or devwatched me (and believe me, I have a good memory). And the way that I'm asked is like "draw this for me and send it to me". Seriously, it pisses me off. Once again, I DO NOT do requests so don't ask. For those of you who are my devwatchers I am sorry to say that I am also closed for these 3 things as well to you too.
My time constraints also apply to trades and commissions. Additionally, I've been burned in the past when it comes to trades with people I do not personally know and don't want to risk this when monetary sums are involved.
Regarding Comments:
Another issue is regarding content. While constructive criticism is tolerated, snide, degrading, perverted, and outright nasty remarks are not. Please refrain from posting such remarks. I really do not appreciate them and would rather not raise my stress level any higher than it is when I see them in my inbox. So far, these comments have been on my ORIGINAL characters. It’s not a character from an anime so there is no guideline of how I should be drawing it. Their design is purely my own and I may do what I wish. I find it unnecessary for people to post such snide comments on something that they do not have any say over. I'm going to continue drawing my characters the way that I want. When posting, please consider the adage: If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all.
